BAE Systems, through their ongoing refurbishment programme, commissioned Cassidy + Ashton to redesign the internal layout of an existing office building ready for a new occupant.
Previously a open plan office, the proposed scheme was to accommodate a new entrance, a state-of-the-art presentation suite, board room, offices, break-out areas and welfare facilities.
Energy efficiency is key to all of BAE Systems refurbishments, with the aim on exceeding current standards. The building was stripped back to its fabric, and the opportunity was taken to complete an air test prior to any new works being carried out which highlighted numerous weaknesses.
The entire building envelope was re-insulated internally, together with new windows, solar panels and an efficient heating system – The result gave BAE Systems with a building whose Energy Performance Certificate is rated B.
